Condition of microbiota of the colon in patients with acne and its influence on the course of the disease

Abstract

Objective — to study the quantitative and qualitative composition of microbiota of the colon in patients with acne and to analyze the impact of its violations on the severity of the clinical course of the disease. Materials and methods. There were 37 patients with acne illness examined in a complex way. The age of the subjects ranged from 19 to 45 years, among them: women — 21 (57 %), men — 16 (43 %), the period of the disease ranged from 6 months to 25 years. The control group consisted of 20 practically healthy persons. In order to diagnose the concomitant dysbiotic changes in the colon, microbiological examination of feces was performed (according to the method of R.V. EpsteinLitvak and F.L. Vilshanska). Results and discussion. Various intestinal pathologies (dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, functional disorders of the hepatobiliary system, gallstone disease etc.) were detected. In the microbiological study of feces, concomitant dysbiosis of the colon was detected in 29 (78.4 %) patients. Violation of microbiota of the colon of different severity was more common in cases of moderate and severe acne and a longer duration of dermatosis. Conclusions. The obtained data suggest that violation of the intestinal microbiota, in particular colon dysbiosis, should be considered an important pathogenetic factor that negatively influences the nature and severity of acne illness and requires timely diagnosis and appropriate medical correction.
