CONFLICTNESS OF FUTURE PSYCHOLOGISTS WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ANXIETY

Abstract

The paper presents the results of theoretical and empirical research of links between anxiety and conflictness as personality properties. It was found that persons with different levels of anxiety tend to different types of conflict behavior. This fact can be explained as follows. Persons with high anxiety tend to experience permanent emotional discomfort, anticipating the coming danger. It provides an extremely destructive effect on human life: reduces mental capacity; creates conditions for negative person status and conflict relationships in the group; provokes aggressive behavior, etc. Such persons also have low self2esteem, lack of confidence in success of future contacts with others, etc. Therefore persons with high anxiety choose either passive strategy of behavior (avoidance), leaving conflict resolution for more active and confident partners or, at best, are ready for concessions (compromise). One of the possible factors that provoke such behavior, is sustained guilt which is characteristic for persons with high anxiety and forces them to give up their own interests for the benefit of others. Persons with low anxiety inherent qualities opposite to those listed. They believe in themselves, feel their own strength and therefore, as evidenced by our study, tend to choose rivalry strategy in conflicts. An important condition for the effectiveness of this choice is high resistance to conflicts that is characteristic of people with low anxiety.
