Constitutive activity of beta-adrenergic receptors in C6 glioma cells.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2005, Vol 57, Issue 5
Abstract
Alprenolol and propranolol (0.001-10 muM) significantly and concentration-dependently inhibited both isoprenaline-driven and basal (non-stimulated) cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) accumulation in the rat C6 glioma cells, showing high potency particularly in the latter condition (IC (50) values of 30 and 27 nM, respectively). In the rat cerebral cortical slices, these two tested beta-adrenoceptor antagonists inhibited the isoprenaline-evoked cAMP response, but had no effect on the nucleotide accumulation under basal (non-stimulated) conditions. The obtained results suggest that native beta-adrenoceptors occurring in C6 glioma cells may be constitutively active.

Effects of the histamine H₃ receptor antagonist ABT-239 on cognition and nicotine-induced memory enhancement in mice.
The strong correlation between central histaminergic and cholinergic pathways on cognitive processes has been reported extensively. However, the role of histamine H(3) receptor mechanisms interacting with nicotinic mecha...
Influence of orphenadrine upon the protective activity of various antiepileptics in the maximal electroshock-induced convulsions in mice.
Orphenadrine is an anticholinergic drug used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, and is also known to exert nonspecific antagonistic activity at the phencyclidine binding site of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) rece...
Potentiation of the antidepressant-like effect of desipramine or reboxetine by metyrapone in the forced swimming test in rats.
The obtained results revealed that joint administration of desipramine or reboxetine and metyrapone (a glucocorticoid synthesis inhibitor) had more potent antidepressant-like activity in the forced swimming test (FST) in...
Characterization of an antiproliferative effect of imidazoline receptor ligands on PC12 cells.
The present study aimed at investigating the influence of imidazoline receptor ligands on the proliferation of PC12 cells and the involvement of the sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) signaling system in this effect. In cultu...
Urocortin: a protective peptide that targets both the myocardium and vasculature.
The urocortins are a family of endogenously produced peptide hormones that show great promise as potential drugs for the treatment of heart disease. They can increase contractility and cardiac output without causing chan...
