Consuming technological emotions: the performance of the technological “orgasm”

Abstract

This paper discusses emotional use of new technologies such as social control device (Gil-Juàrez, 2009) through a research about technology users. The main purpose of the analysis focuses on the change of technology by users to understand how individuals construct their social identity from this consumption. This consumption is defined from the theoretical framework of emotional performance (Belli, Harré e Íñiguez, 2009), a totally emotional act that determines the social identity of consumers feel integrated into the social group where they live.
