Abstract
The Ne mean Ga mes we re held in the sta te of Ar go li dae, on the nort he ast of Pe lopon ne se, at Ne mea, in the ho no ur of the God Ze us. Ac cor ding to the le gend, the Ne mean Ga mes had been fo un ded by He rac les in the me mory of one of his nu me ro us ex plo its, to be mo re pre ci se the vic tory over the Ne mean lion. They we re held from 573. B.C. to 394. A.D. on the every third year of the Olympic cycle. The Fe sti vi ti es con si sted of at hle tic and equ e stri an events si mi lar to the Olympic ones, and the win ners we re awar ded by gi ven the ce lery wre aths. The So ci ety for the re vi val of the Ne mean Ga mes which to day has mo re than 2200 mem bers all over the world has suc ce e ded in re vi ving the se Ga mes in 1996. Among the mem bers of the Ho no rary Com mit tee of the So ci ety are many of the Olympic win ners and world fun cti o na ri es.
