Journal Title: Politicus - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue

Abstract

The theories of regional development are analyzed within the social and economic sciences to determine their place and role in the conceptual basis of the formation and implementation of regional policy of modern states. It is proved that the theory of regional development started from the German school of classical philosophy, where its scholars substantiated the nature and criteria of social development and its structural elements are further developed within economic sciences and in particular the regional economy, and now make up a separate line of research of interdisciplinary type. This is the value that determines the contribution of these theories of regional development in the common vision of regional policy foundations of modern states.
