Convergence of Socioeconomic Progress Across Indian States

Abstract

This paper examines the issue of convergence of various socioeconomic indicators among Indian states. The study is comprehensive in the sense that it does not only concentrate on Income convergence, convergence of human development across Indian states has also been tested. In fact, the conditional income convergence has also been assessed wherein different social indicators have been incorporated in the model as control variables. The parametric panel regression results do not conform conditional and unconditional income divergence, but convergence of human development has been found significant.
