COOPETITIVE STRATEGY FOR REGIONAL AIRPORTS AND HUBS
Journal Title: Проблеми системного підходу в економіці - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 57
Abstract
In air transport, the evolution of traffic depends upon many economic factors, and on the way in which the markets participants respond to those factors. Although airlines are the main actors, the airports are by no means passive, and their strategies will also have an impact on airline behaviour and route development. New methodology analyzes the potential evolution of airport strategies in the next decade and its impact on the distribution of traffic at airports, using a typology of airports. The coopetition is a phenomenon of establishment and strengthening of the competitive advantages by cooperation of competing firms through strategic alliances, networks and strategic ecosystems. Coopetition strategies combine two contra¬dictory forces: competition and collabora¬tion. The pioneering researches on coopetition consider that this strategy should become an alternative to strategies based on pure cooperation and strategies based on pure competition. Brandenburger and Nalebuff (1996), Lado et al. (1997) and Bengtsson and Kock (1999, 2000) agree that coopetition is a strategy that holds the greatest potential for firms’ performance or, at least, has the greatest impact on variables clearly identified as likely to make them more efficient. Cost savings, sharing of resources and stimulation that promote innovation are among the potential gains from this strategy. For the aviation industry of Ukraine, which goes through the crises waves, the finding of the ways to develop and implement innovation technologies that will allow to rise the profitability and the access of the aviation services at the same time – is the urgent necessity for the further existence. The internalization, liberalization and globalization of world market of air traffic and integration of Ukraine into EU requires new approaches to economic performance increase for the aviation enterprises and one of the most promising one is the coopetition strategy building and implementing.
