Correlation between overbite and upper anterior facial height in students from the Faculty of Dentistry of the Medical University of Gdańsk

Abstract
Aim of the study: To investigate the relationship between the overbite depth and the anterior maxillary dentoalveolar height in a group of fifth-yeardentalstudents of the Medical University of Gdańsk.Material and methods: The study involved 60 final-year dental students including 51 females and 9 males. The sample included subjects with normal occlusion and malocclusion. The Masztalerz Index calculation was based on the measurements of the nose height (Nasion-Subnasale) and the upper facial height (Nasion-Prosthion). The results were compared with studies conducted among school-going population in Wrocław.Results: The mean values of nasal-maxillary index in our study group were similar to the values obtained by Masztalerz who performed the research in Wrocław.Conclusions: No statistically significantcorrelationbetween the alterations of dentoalveolar height and the overbite depth was reported.
