Criminology in the world today

Journal Title: Юридические науки и образование - Year 2019, Vol 59, Issue 59

Abstract

Science cannot and should not claim to establish general laws, its bounds are limited to situational analysis and comprehension of meanings in the interests of certain groups of actors. As for ideology, it becomes an expression of group interests. The capitulation of the ‘victorious’ neoliberal philosophy to capital forces us to search for those sciences which are able to create the methodological basis to answer the challenges of the modern world. It seems that among such sciences the priority place belongs to criminology. It should be noted a sharp increase in the demand for criminology at the analysis of almost all modern phenomena and processes. And this is natural, since social relations throughout the world are actively criminalized. Before our eyes, a criminal futurological project of globalization is unfolding - a project aimed at the future, focused on shaping the reality that meets the interests of world forces with real political and economic power. His criminality is in goals, means and consequences. The objectives of the globalization project are the formation of a new world order (essentially racist one), the dictatorship of the trade and financial elite, the enslavement of population of the planet by International lords. Despite certain costs of ‘criminologization’ of the development of Humanities, this is an objective process reflecting the criminalization of social relations. It is enough to cite a brief list of the problems studied in doctoral theses to make sure of this: the revitalization of the activities of totalitarian sects; the rise of religious fundamentalism; intensification of tendencies of ethnic and confessional separatism; negative dynamics of poverty in the context of asocial and antisocial behavior; marginals as a specific and socially dangerous detachment of the poor; monopolization and oligarchization; commercialization of public life as a new threat to the economic security of the country; criminal content of financial, raw materials, energy, technology, food security; oligarchy as a dangerous kind of shadow economy; corruption as a backbone factor in the process of merging the functions of private business and public administration. The fact that both power and business are involved in corruption makes the anti-corruption struggle into an extremely complex area of state policy. It is dwelled on the great importance of criminology for the analysis of practically all contemporary phenomena and processes. Considering this, the exclusion of criminology from the basic professional part of the Federal Educational Standard of Higher Professional Education inflicts serious damage on legal education in Russia.
