CRITICAL READING STRATEGIES IN TEACHING UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN NON-LINGUISTIC ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

Looking at the system of education in Post-Soviet countries through the modern educational paradigm, the necessity of urgent changes becomes obvious. The final goal of foreign language education has been changed from ‘linguistic knowledge’ to ‘the formation of ICC (International Communicative Competence)’. Thus, we no longer form students’ knowledge, but rather their ability to put that knowledge into practice. But what will this process require? First of all, it is students’ ability to think critically and creatively. This article describes critical reading strategies and techniques in teaching university students, as well as their practical usage in non-linguistic environment and its results.  The highlightsof the presents articl, thus, can be defined as follows: To get a clear-cut distinction features of ‘critical reader’ and ‘non-critical reader’;  To emphasize the differentiation and interconnection between such notions as Types of reading, Kinds of reading, Reading strategies and Reading techniques;  To suggest of a Model of Teaching Critical Reading to students in non-linguistic environment.
