Cui prodest History? Overview of Current Issues and Challenges

Abstract
In recent years, the interpretation of the historical events has acquired a wide diversity of sizes and shapes History has ceased its punctuality and passivity, without waiting for historians’ selective and critical mission It is becoming increasingly clear that attraction that history exerts on the general public does not necessarily derive from its scientific and methodological character Inspiring novels, films, documentaries, and even computer games, certain historical events draw not only the cognitive attention, but also the public’s enthusiasm Nevertheless, paradoxical, the history that steals seductive glances from the audience finds that is hard to be placed in the school curricula, in the educational offer, and in the youth’s intention to make it a career All types of reforms, manuals, remuneration, and last but not least, pseudo-vocation of teachers, reduce the interest for the professionalization of history Faced with the issues and challenges of all kinds, the historians need to assume a conduct that favors a healthy, tonic, but also critical and realistic approach
