Cultural and chronological complexes of the Murzikha IV site in the Lower Kama river region
Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 12
Abstract
The article offers for discussion the archaeological materials of Murzikha IV site (Alekseevskoe district, Republic of Tatarstan). The site was discovered and investigated by P.N. Starostin in 1965. Collected ceramic materials refer to several cultural and chronological horizons. The earliest horizon is connected to the Neolithic stroke-ornamented ceramics and “comb” ceramics of the Kama type (the latter group prevails). Later, the inhabitants of the site territory started producing the Lugovskaya type of ceramics. They were followed by those practicing Ananyino type and “textile” ceramics. Besides ceramics, a representational set of stone tools of varied functionality was collected at the investigated site. The final functioning stage of the settlement is illustrated by the medieval cultural and chronological horizon, represented by few fragments of Volga Bulgaria ceramics.
