Abstract
the research addresses a phenomenon inherent to the world of cultural consumption among university students in the current sociocultural context. The aim is to identify preferred cultural consumption practices of young people at the University of Granma, a province in the eastern region of Cuba. This paper prioritizes a methodological approach from the triangulation research methods and techniques. For the case study, the use of scientific observation, questionnaires, and focus groups proved to be an advantage; the use of methodological instruments was conceived as a work in different stages in order to evaluate the regularity of the phenomenon in everyday practice and then move to a stage of understanding and interpretation. The results reveal the preference of young people for cultural practices akin with tastes and needs that are common among the youth. Thus, their priorities are entertainment and recreation in addition to their interest for new information and communications technologies. The indifference, lack of interest, and apathy for other offers backed by cultural centers (mainly in respect to theater, cinema, museums, and all kinds of events in the artistic and cultural fields that promote the cult of artistic creation) is particularly worrisome.ult of artistic creation) is particularly worrisome.
