Current linguistic conception of metonymy: cognitive and discourse approaches

Abstract
The article provides an overview of the conception of metonymy within current cognitive and discourse approaches. It contains the definition of metonymy in cognitive linguistics, theoretical results of metonymy research in terms of frames, ICMs and domains, namely it outlines classifications of conceptual metonymy, cognitive operations and models of conceptual integration with metaphor. The article focuses on the notion of discourse metonymy and its varieties, summarizes the findings of metonymy functions in both personal and institutional discourses.
