CURRENT REGIONAL POLITICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION OF UKRAINE

Abstract
This research considers the current regional political and geographical position of Ukraine as a Central European state. Ukraine, in terms of centrality, is the second country in the region after Hungary. Six out of seven land neighbors of Ukraine are the Central European states, and other eight Central European countries are the second order neighbors. The most problematic issues in cooperation of Ukraine with the states of the region, especially with the most important of them (Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Romania), are contradictory interpretation of history, radical and populist political movements, support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, assimilation of national minorities, using of national languages in the education. Our findings serve to understanding and overcoming the main problems in cooperation and to development the ways of closer partnership with the Central European states for improvement of the regional political and geographical position of Ukraine.
