CURTAIN GHAZELS: ONE OF THE INTERSECTING POINT BETWEEN DIVAN POETRY AND FOLK POETRY
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 43
Abstract
Ghazel, which is one of the verse form of Diwan poetry, means amatory chatting with women and to mention a drink in the relevant field. With this poetry form, the poet committed also the genres such as tawheed, munajat, naat which he could express his appreciations and concerns, his joys and sorrows. On the other hand, these written Ghazels began to be said in some places like a dervish lodge and sira nights with tunes over time. Another place which they were said apart from the classical form is Hacivat and Karagöz game. Karagöz curtain is a national meeting place where signs and humor, music and poem, history and future, child and adult meet and socialize. The general characteristic in terms of language of the curtain ghazels, which are chanted in this game, is that they were written in Ottoman Turkish. The meter is now abandoned though, the prosodic meter. The theme ‹we› dominates in most of these Ghazels. This is both to internalize the broad messes, to attract to his side and to get rid of ‹I› which is featured in combating nafs in Sufism. As a second point, in many poems it is described what the curtain is. The third, there is an advice-like attitude (don’t think, look, understand, listen, etc.). The commemorating Sheikh Küşteri directly or indirectly is a notewhorty point. Finally, the presence of prayer phrases for Sultan of that time is remarkable.
