Curvilinear structural envelops in current architecture
Journal Title: Architecture Civil Engineering Environment - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 0
Abstract
The paper is focusing on constructing nonlinear shaping of structural envelope in architecture of the digital avant-garde. Digital technologies create new opportunities by allowing construction of complex forms which until recently were difficult to design and build. The first part of the paper presents a concrete structure combined with a system of spatial structure used in constructing complex geometries envelope of The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre in Baku (2013). The second part presents how to build curvilinear surfaces with shotcrete technology –TheEMPinSeattle(2000), The City of Culture in Santiago de Compostela (2010) and The Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw (2014) will be presented. This study highlights issues of constructing curvilinear building envelops and shows new relationships between geometry and material which are different than before.

Structural behavior of normal and high-strength concrete walls reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced polymer bars under eccentric load
The solution of using glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars, as reinforcement in concrete structures to overcome the problems created by steel corrosion, is now widely accepted because of both its non-corrosive natu...
Revive to survive and develop. City centres of Sheffield (U.K.) and Katowice (PL)
In the beginnings of 21 century revitalization by means of public open space planning is becoming more and more popular. The purpose of the paper is to juxtapose (not to compare) two European examples of public open spac...
On-site diagnostics of the mechanical ventilation in office buildings
The methodology for inspecting the ventilation system and on-site measurements for office buildings has been proposed under the project “Development of thermal diagnostics of buildings”. The inspections of the ventilatio...
Wind influence on a building with the natural smoke removal system
The natural smoke removal is a common way of protection of the escape routes in Poland. The operation of such systems is based on the phenomenon of buoyancy. The intensity of this effect depends on the temperature differ...
Acoustic evaluation of a new modular system for green roofs and green walls
Environmental noise is a major problem that affects citizen’s health and comfort mainly in densely populated urban areas. There are some ways to reduce environmental noise pollution through the use of materials with good...
