Cutting Parameters Optimization for Surface Roughness in Turning Operation of Polyethylene (PE) Using Taguchi Method
Journal Title: Tribology in Industry - Year 2012, Vol 34, Issue 2
Abstract
In any machining process, it is most important to determine the optimal settings of machining parameters aiming at reduction of production costs and achieving the desired product quality. This paper discusses the use of Taguchi method for minimizing the surface roughness in turning polyethylene. The influence of four cutting parameters, cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and tool nose radius on average surface roughness (Ra ) was analyzed on the basis of the standard L27 Taguchi orthogonal array. The experimental results were then collected and analyzed with the help of the commercial software package MINITAB. Based on the analysis of means (ANOM) and analysis of variance (ANOVA), the optimal cutting parameter settings are determined, as well as level of importance of the cutting parameters.

The Tribological Performance of Hardfaced/Thermal Sprayed Coatings for Increasing the Wear Resistance of Ventilation Mill Working Parts
During the coal pulverizing, the working parts of the ventilation mill are being worn by the sand particles. For this reason, the working parts are usually protected with materials resistant to wear (hardfaced/thermal sp...
Evaluation of Oil Film Pressure and Temperature of an Elliptical Journal Bearing - An Experimental Study
The present study is aimed at experimental evaluation of both oil film pressure and temperature at the central plane of finite elliptical journal bearing configuration. These parameters have been obtained by running the...
Some Aspects Concerning the Behaviour of Friction Materials at Low and Very Low Sliding Speeds
The tribological aspects concerning the behaviour of friction materials in the range of low and very low sliding speeds (0.2 – 200 mm/min) are essentially different of those in the high sliding speeds range. This paper a...
Effect of Ageing on Dry Sliding Wear Behaviour of Al-MMC for Disc Brake
The present investigation shows the wear behaviour of as-cast and heat treated, A356 aluminium alloy reinforced with SiC and Graphite particles subjected to different ageing durations. The liquid metallurgy technique was...
Tribological Behaviour of Smart Fluids Influenced by Magnetic and Electric Field – A Review
This review paper highlights the tribological behaviour and performance of smart fluids. Two main kinds of smart fluids, that respond to a suitable external stimulus are investigated – electrorheological and magnetorheol...
