Daily river level forecast based on the development of an artificial neural network: case study in La Virginia - Risaralda
Journal Title: Revista Facultad de Ingeniería-Universidad de Antioquia - Year 2015, Vol 1, Issue 76
Abstract
The municipality of La Virginia (Risaralda, Colombia) is constantly affected by floods that originate from increased water levels in the Cauca River. Disaster relief agencies do not currently have adequate monitoring systems to identify potential overfl ow events in time-series observations to prevent fl ood damage to homes or injury to the general population. In this paper, various simulation models are proposed for the prediction of flooding that contributes as a technical tool to the development and implementation of early warning systems to improve the responsiveness of disaster relief agencies. The models, which are based on artifi cial neural networks, take hydroclimatological information from different stations along the Cauca River Basin, and the trend indicates the average daily level of the river within the next 48 hours. This methodology can be easily applied to other urban areas exposed to fl ood risks in developing countries.

Maximum power point tracking in PV systems based on adaptive control and sliding mode control
Photovoltaic (PV) systems are commonly controlled using PI or PID structures, which cannot ensure global stability and a constant settling time. Therefore, the optimization algorithms, e.g. Perturb and Observe (P&O), are...
Comparison of models and standards for implementing IT service capacity management
Due to the recent and significant growth of the information technology (IT) services, industries need some sort of framework and / or standards for the management of their services, especially IT services. So, it becomes...
Influence of sodium chloride on the cloud point of polyethoxylate surfactants and estimation of Flory-Huggins model parameters
In this study, the influence of NaCl on the cloud point of polyethoxylate surfactants from the family of lauryl alcohol polyethoxylates (C12EOn) and nonylphenol polyethoxylates (NPEOn) was investigated. Liquid-liquid equ...
Fuzzy control techniques applied to a three phase synchronous rectifier current loop
This work presents three fuzzy variable structure control (FVSC) techniques applied to the current control loop in a three-phase synchronous rectifier. These techniques are based in a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy PI control...
Nonlinear analysis of the electroencephalogram in depth of anesthesia
Digital signal processing of the electroencephalogram (EEG) became important in monitoring depth of anesthesia (DoA) being used to provide a better anesthetic technique. The objective of this work was to conduct a review...
