Decision for Energy Choices by the Head of the Household for Cooking in Pakistan Micro Based Analysis PSLM 2010-11

Abstract

The study analyses the important economic and demographic factors affecting energy choices of head of the household in rural and urban areas of Pakistan by using multinomial logit model. We obtained data from the PSLM (2010-11) survey conducted by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The empirical results indicate that household’s head income, level of education, age and occupation are the significant factors among others that determine the cooking fuel choices. While income is the most important factor in determining energy choices, so it is therefore need for policy makers to consider economic factors while addressing issues associated with household energy consumption.
