DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF pH-TRIGGERED IN SITU GELLING SYSTEM OF CIPROFLOXACIN
Journal Title: International Research Journal of Pharmacy (IRJP) - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 5
Abstract
The aim of the present work was formulation and evaluation of in situ gelling system of ciprofloxacin. The poor bioavailability and therapeutic response exhibited by conventional ophthalmic solutions due to rapid precorneal elimination of the drug may be overcome by the use of in situ gel-forming systems that are instilled as drops into the eye and undergo a sol–gel transition in the cul-de-sac. Hence, the purpose of the present work was to formulate pH-triggered, temperature triggered & ion activated in situ Gelling system of ciprofloxacin to provide sustained release of drug based on polymeric carriers that undergo sol-to-gel transition upon change in pH. The ciprofloxacin in situ gelling system formulated by using poly acrylic acid (Carbopol 934) in combination with hydroxyl propylmethyl cellulose (HPMC) which acted as viscosity enhancing agent. The developed formulation was efficacious, stable, non-irritant and provided sustained release over 8-hour period and it is a viable alternative to conventional eye drops by virtue of its ability to enhance bioavailability through its longer precorneal residence time & ability to produced sustained drug release.

VALIDATED SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHODS FOR SIMULTANEOUS ESTIMATION OF METRONIDAZOLE AND FURAZOLIDONE IN PURE AND IN TABLET DOSAGE FORM
Two methods are developed for simultaneous estimation of metronidazole and furazolidone in pure and in tablet dosage form by using distilled water as a solvent. Quantitation was carried out by the proposed methods namely...
LONG-ACTING BETA2-AGONISTS VERSUS LEUKOTRIENE RECEPTOR ANTAGONIST AS ADD-ON THERAPY TO CORTICOSTEROIDS FOR CHRONIC ASTHMA MANAGEMENT IN PATIENTS OF KARACHI, PAKISTAN
Asthmatic patients are usually maintained with inhaled corticosteroids but if symptoms are appearing we need to manage asthma with add on therapy either with LABA or leukotriene receptor antagonist. To estimate which mai...
A NEW MODEL FOR INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE IN RATS
Here we report the Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced rat model of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Toll Like Receptor-4 (TLR-4) are reported to be upregulated in IBD and LPS is recognized by TLRs of the innate immune sys...
