Detection Experimental Analysis of Light Hydrocarbon Pipe with Coating Layer by Magnetostrictive Ultrasonic Guided Wave

Abstract

The magnetostrictive senser ( Ms S) ultrasonic guided wave testing system was adopted for on-line detection of light hydrocarbon pipeline with coated layer. The effects of detection frequency and pipe diameters on the positioning accuracy of pipeline detection were studied. At the same time, the effects of epoxy resin with viscoelastic coating layer on guided wave signal were also analyzed by using three pass and elbow as the defect and reference. The pipes with diameter of 114 mm and 80 mm were detected by the 64 k Hz and 32 k Hz probes. The results shows that the detection accuracy of the pipeline is different with different detection frequency. The higher the frequency is, the higher the positioning accuracy is. The diameter of the pipe has important influences on positioning accuracy of the guided wave signal. The positioning accuracy of diameter80 mm pipe with 32 k Hz frequency is 9. 3 cm, which is much higher than the positioning accuracy 17. 6 cm of114 mm of diameter. The viscoelastic coating has strong attenuation of the detection signal. The average attenuation rate is about 1 d B/m.
