Determination of Useful Boron Content of Soils of Arsuz District of Hatay Province and Their Relationships with Some Soil Properties

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the useful boron content of the soils of Arsuz district of Hatay province and its relations with some physical and chemical properties. According to the results; pH content of the soils was 7.65-8.42; total salt content 0.013-0.033%; clay content 18.88-60.32%; sand content 3.68-51.12%; silt content 18.00-64.00%; lime content 0. 62-28.04%; organic matter content 1.68-4.09%; exchangeable Na content 0.07-0.93 me/100 g; exchangeable K content 0.26-1.34% and useful boron content 0.09-1.22 mg/kg. It was determined that 48.57% of the soils in Arsuz region of Hatay province were very low, 42.86% were low and 8.57% were sufficient in terms of useful boron content at 0-30 cm depth. While a positive significant relationship was determined between useful boron and silt, lime, exchangeable Na and exchangeable K contents of the soils, a negative significant relationship was determined between useful boron and sand content. In addition, significant positive relationships were determined between salt and exchangeable Na and exchangeable K contents of the soils. As a result, the content of useful boron in the soils of the study area was determined at low and very low levels above 91% in all soils of the study area and it was seen that the useful boron content of the soils was insufficient and therefore boron fertilization should be done.
