Determinations on a Group of Karamanlıca Gravity Stones in Kula

Abstract

In the Aegean region, the Karamanlidika samples were first identified in Kula with our current knowledge. In addition to the limited writings of some houses' inscriptions, many pieces of writing take place in tombstones. The examples that we find today, which are preserved in the Kula Municipality warehouse and some of which were brought from the Eski Church, are the subject of this article. Some of these tombstones dated from 1817 to 1883 have been used for more than one person and some of them have poetic expressions, herbal and geometrical ornaments and occupational symbols. Although most of these stones, which are generally of rectangular shape, are often broken from marble, they are generally readable. Texts in which capitalization is more common include some information about non-Muslims in Kula.
