DETERMINING THE CONTRIBUTION TO CONSUMPTION EXPENDITURES OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ON THE ECONOMY OF THE CITY: A STUDY ON THE STUDENTS OF KASTAMONU UNIVERSITY

Abstract
Universities have various contributions to the cities they are located in. The most important contribution by universities for the city they are located in is their participation in the city’s economy. Universities achieve this contribution with the accommodation, food, clothing and similar expenditures of especially the students, as well as the academic and administrative personnel. This economic contribution has various other effects such as visible vibrancy in the city’s economy, provision of services that were not previously provided, reduction of the differences of development among region and sustainability of the economy of the city. In scope of this study, it is aimed to determine the expenditures of university students enrolled in the Fall semester of the school year of 2016-2017 in the departments of Kastamonu University located in the city center, especially on accommodation, food, clothing, social and cultural consumption, as well as revealing the contribution of these expenditures on the economy of Kastamonu. The data required for this purpose collected at the units of Kastamonu University located in the city center between the dates of 1 and 30 December 2016, on students selected by the method of convenience sampling via face to face interviews.
