Developing leaders in the company and in the society

Abstract
The article presents the evolution of the leadership concept and the importance of leadership competencies in an organization. On the basis of leadership competencies’ model and empirical data, the essence of leadership is shown as the bilateral relationship between leader and employees, in which leaders should be coherent individuals with distinctive features, such as: interpersonal skills, especially teamworking, and personal competencies deriving from work on oneself. Moreover, theability of developing strategies, continually building up the authority of leaders as well as an appropriate system to support employees’ competencies development give the direction for organizational development.
