Abstract
Modern state of societal development reuires the shift from linguistic to communicative approach and formation of the so called speech competence. The modular technology of education can effectively solve this task. The modular educational technology is a didactic system which combines forms of organizing and managing educational process preserving a high level of students’ independence in learning on the basis of planned, regular and staged mastering of functional units of professional activity. This technology is also instrumental in developing foreign language speech skills: dialogical and monological. Dialogical speech is a process of speech interaction based of interchange of utterances not reaching the size of a monologue. For effective development of dialogical skills it is recommended to use exercises with elements of interview; with a role-playing component; with elements of discussion. Monological speech is a type speech formed as a result of the active speech activity designed for passive and indirect perception. This type of speech is to be developed via communicative exercises aimed at mastering skills of producing monologue – characteristics; monologue – narration; monologue – argumentation; monologue rendering impressions and emotions; monologue – précis. In the process of developing foreign language skills there appear a series of difficulties such as linguistic, speech, psychological and general communicative ones. The modular educational technology can remove these difficulties due to a complex of special modular principles inherent in it: the principles of dynamics, effectiveness and efficiency of knowledge, learning autonomy, exibility, versatility of methodical counseling, parity, completion of training. The process of developing speech skills implies passing the following stages: entrance (entry test), motivation, contents storage, control (intermediate tests), exit (final test). The conducted experimental research testified efficacy of implementing the modular educational technology in development of dialogical and monological skills by comparing initial and final level development indicies.
