DEVELOPMENT OF liND GENERATION CARGO UNITS IN WORLD COMBINED TRANSPORT

Journal Title: Biuletyn Instytutu Morskiego - Year 1992, Vol 19, Issue 1

Abstract

Trends observed in world combined transport are going towards creation of larger cargo units, the units of lind generation . Respective countries had accepted cargo units of different parameters, not covered by the International Standards. This involves several problems in handling of such units within international combined transport.Hence the present paper gives a synthetic review of already used and newly designed cargo units throughout the world. The review takes into account basic parameters (linear parameters, gross weight, payload) considerably resulting in handling possibilities of such units and putting new requirements before equipment and. infrastructure of respective links in combined transport to be taken into account in new investment designs in transport sphere.Already used or foreseen for use containers of parameters or some of them exceeding dimensions of series 1 containers as accepted by ISO Standards, large swap bodies /of a length equal to or exceeding 12,2 m/ as well as the ,Rolux system units had been characterized as units belonging to lind generation.
