DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHRONICLES IN THE ANCIENT UKRAINIAN WRITINGS AS A CONSISTUANT PART OF THE EUROPEAN LITERARY PROCESS

Abstract
The development of chronicles, in particular the appearance of the Ukrainian Chronograph in Ukraine from the times of Kievan Rus to the XVIth century and its interconnection with the European literary process have been researched. It is stated that already during the Kievan Rus it was possible to observe the state's aspirations of the Ukrainians to be on the level with other nations both in military affairs and in cultural development. Translated works that were widespread at that time became an awareness-raising mainstream of the world history adapted for national needs, and its own ancient Ukrainian literature supplementing foreign cognitive messages from the native past, contributed to raising the spiritual and intellectual arena of fellow citizens. It was emphasized that the material of the "Ukrainian Chronograph" of the first edition became the basis for the 2nd and 3d editions of "The Chronograph", "The Chronicles" of Theodosius Sofonovich, "Kyiv Synopsis", "Gustynsky Chronicle", "The Road Chronicler" by Dmytro Tuptal. This allowed the Ukrainians to have an interesting original national chronological tradition of the European model, which once again demonstrated the cultural equality of our ancient writing with other countries.
