Development of the Institute for Investigation of Marine Casualties: History and Modern times

Abstract
The article examines the genesis of the institute of marine casualty investigations from the point of view of the evolution of the purpose of conducting investigations. Both ancient regulations concerning maritime casualties and the current norm-setting activities of the International Maritime Organization in this field are being searched. The objectives of investigations of maritime casualties at the present stage of development of interstate relations are determined.
