Abstract
Is a dialogue between two people representing opposite beliefs possible? Is Decalogue an athletic competition which involves ten various disciplines? Is it possible to live in the present world according to God’s law? And can the commandments given to the Chosen Nation thousands of years ago still matter? The series of films by Krzysztof Kieślowski about Decalogue shows that certain values are universal although you sometimes have to lose your faith in order to regain it. When compared to the John Paul II’s teaching presented during his first visit to independent Poland in the form of lectures it gets a new meaning as it becomes a part of an extraordinary dialogue – a dialogue which in fact didn’t take place. It is the very works left by two great men – a head of the Church and an artist – that speak on behalf of their creators. What is the meaning of the dialogue today? The readers are to learn it on their own.
