DIDACTIC POTENTIAL OF THE PODCAST AS A MEANS OF THE INTENSIFICATION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING AT THE UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The article analyzes the issues of using podcasts in teaching foreign language to students of higher educational institutions. The author gives the definition of the concept of “podcast”. Various scientific approaches to the characterization of podcasting technology are considered. The didactic possibilities and methodological functions of podcasts in teaching a foreign language are investigated. The didactic potential of podcasting in the teaching of a foreign language includes the possibility of placing, listening or watching audio or video files on the podcast service, discussing the content of the podcast in the microblogging; promotes the development of students’ cognitive abilities, learning skills in collaboration with the teacher and independent learning activities. The use of training podcasts in teaching foreign language allows us to solve a number of methodological tasks, such as expanding and enriching a lexical dictionary, developing and improving grammatical skills of students, developing speaking and writing skills. The author identifies a number of conditions that must be observed when applying this technology in the educational process: the video material must correspond to the level of students’ knowledge, be consistent with the educational theme; it is necessary to clearly distinguish the main thing, to feel a measure in the use of visualization; the process of watching videopodcasts should be organized in such a way that all students have the opportunity to clearly see / hear the material; teacher’s comments during the demonstration video should be thought out and justified. Based on personal experience of using podcasts in teaching English to students, the author suggests ways to develop speaking and listening skills of students based on the use of podcasts in the process of learning a foreign language.
