DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS FOR BODYBUILDING: IS IT SAFE FOR THE LIVER?

Abstract
Nowadays, people are in persistent search for methods of idealizing both appearance and health, and use of Dietary supplements (DS) is extensively rising worldwide despite unproven efficacy. Reported cases of herbals and DS-induced liver injury are increasing worldwide. The aim of this manuscript is to report current information about DS associated hepatotoxicity. In this article, we describe different DS associated with liver injury, paid special attention to illicit androgenic anabolic steroids for bodybuilding, as they are frequently sold under the denomination of DS despite being conventional drugs.
