Digital Controller Development Methodology Based on Real-Time Simulations with LabVIEW FPGA Hardware-Software Toolset
Journal Title: Elektronika - Year 2013, Vol 17, Issue 2
Abstract
In this paper, we exemplify the use of NI Lab-VIEW FPGA as a rapid prototyping environment for digital controllers. In our power electronics laboratory, it has been successfully employed in the development, debugging, and test of different power converter controllers for microgrid applications. The paper shows how this high level programming language, together with its target hardware platforms, including CompactRIO and Single Board RIO systems, allows researchers and students to develop even complex applications in reasonable times. The availability of efficient drivers for the considered hardware platforms frees the users from the burden of low level programming. At the same time, the high level programming approach facilitates software re-utilization, allowing the laboratory know-how to steadily grow along time. Furthermore, it allows hardware-in-the-loop real-time simulation, that proved to be effective, and safe, in debugging even complex hardware and software co-designed controllers. To illustrate the effectiveness of these hardware-software tool sets and of the methodology based upon them, two case studies are presented.

Bode Plots Revisited: a Software System for Automated Generation of Piecewise Linear Frequency Response Plots
The paper presents an algorithm for automatic generation of piecewise linear Bode plots. The algorithm is complete in the sense it covers for all posible locations of poles and zeros of transfer functions, including unst...
Joint Effect of Heterogeneous Intrinsic Noise Sources on Instability of MEMS Resonators
This article's focus is on the numerical estimation of the overall instability of microelectromechanical-system-based (MEMS) resonators, caused by intrinsic noise mechanisms that are different in nature (electrical, mech...
A Realization of Temperature Monitoring System Based on Real-Time Kernel μC/OS and 1-wire Bus
The traditional temperature monitoring system generally adopt some analog sensors for collecting data and a microcontroller for processing data for the purpose of temperature monitoring. However, this back-fore ground sy...
An Operational Standpoint in Electrical Engineering
In electrical engineering education exists a major difficulty for first level students, namely the Laplace transform. The question is: does this ubiquitous tool is needed in an electrical engineering course? Our answer is:...
Elevator Safety Monitoring and Early Warning System Based on Directional antenna transmission technology
In order to solve problems of the absence of security protection and the lack of early warning mechanism in the current elevator operation process, elevator safety monitoring and early warning system based on directional...
