Digital Currency Systems as a Determinant of Changes in the Banking Sector and Its Payment Services
Journal Title: Zeszyty Naukowe Wydziału Zamiejscowego w Chorzowie Wyższej Szkoły Bankowej w Poznaniu - Year 2016, Vol 18, Issue
Abstract
Trends observable in global financial markets trigger changes to traditional banking operations. Advances in new technologies and the ensuing evolution of digital services result in swifter access to information, spurring banks to look for new solutions in financial services. The launch of the bitcoin can kick off a genuine revolution in the way that payments, and particularly cross-border transactions, are carried out. The rapid growth of cryptocurrencies, coupled with the lack of clear regulations governing their use, raises fears of abuse on the one hand, and offers new payment options on the other.
