Digital Implementation of The Sigmoid Function for FPGA Circuits
Journal Title: Acta Technica Napocensis- Electronica-Telecomunicatii (Electronics and Telecommunications) - Year 2009, Vol 50, Issue 2
Abstract
In this paper, is proposed a method to implement in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) circuits different approximation of the sigmoid function. Three previously published piecewise linear and one piecewise second-order approximation are analyzed from point of view of hardware resources utilization, induced errors caused by the approximation function and bits representation, power consumption and speed processing. The major benefit of the proposed method resides in the possibility to design neural networks by means of predefined block systems created in System Generator environment and the possibility to create a higher level design tools used to implement neural networks in logical circuits.

Broadband Power Amplifier Nonlinearity Cancellation in OFDM Systems
One drawback of OFDM systems is the high peak-to-average power ratio, which imposes strong requirements on the linearity of power amplifiers (PAs). Such linearity requirements translate into high back-off that results in...
Resource Management in Hybrid Wireless Networks Using Intelligent Mobile Agents
Wireless networks are no more used only for data transfer and Internet access, but now also support voice and multimedia services. The tremendous demands from the users are pushing the development of mobile communication...
Image Enhancement Using a New Shock Filter Formalism
We present a new approach based on Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) and shock filter theory for deblurring 2D Gaussian blurred images. The inherent problems of stability posed by the reverse heat equation and the di...
Retrieving Call Detail Records from Asterisk using SNMP
Several SNMP agents could be integrated by IETF’s AgentX protocol which separates the communication with SNMP manager in two parts: AgentX between sub-agents and master agent, and SNMP between master agent and manager. T...
Towards Structure, Time and Statistical Agility
This paper considers the evolution of modern adaptive filtering in the context of applications in wireless communications. The main contribution is to introduce a common framework which potentially allows the adaptive sy...
