Digital models and plaster casts in dental technology and orthodontics: A literature review

Abstract
Aim of the study. To compare the quality of dental casts applied in dental technology and orthodontics prepared traditionally and virtually on the basis of literature review.Material and Methods. The review was made using Medline / PubMed database. The following terms were used to guide our review: digital models, models, model measurements, virtual models, plaster models, dental cast. 60 articles were found, however, only 27 were qualified for the study material.Results. The literature review revealed that the measurements of traditional and virtual models were most frequently compared. Their repeatability, usefulness, credibility and propability of standardisation were assessed and compared.Conclusion. Technology of virtual models is widely spread in dental practice. They are a beneficial alternative to traditional plaster casts because of their easy safekeeping.
