Digital techniques of mapping the shape of teeth prepared with use of intra-oral scanners
Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2012, Vol 62, Issue 2
Abstract
The first step in manufacturing prosthetic restorations in the CAD / CAM system is scanning of the prepared tooth either on its plaster model or directly inside the mouth. This article covers four systems, which enable computer mapping of the shape of the prepared tooth using intra-oral scanners: CEREC Acquisition Center, AC (Sirona Dental), E4D Dentist (D4D Technologies), iTero (Cadent) and the Lava Chairside Oral Scanner COS (3M ESPE). Particular stages of the scanning process, various techniques of image acquisition and transmission of the obtained data to the laboratory are described.
