DISCONTINUITY REASONS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF GENDER VARIABLE

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the discontinuation reasons of secondary schoold students and to put the discontinuation reasons forward in terms of gender differences. The research was done with survey model. Sample of the study includes 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of Hatay Kavalcık Ertuğrul Gazi Secondary School of 2012 – 2013 educational year. Data consists of the information obrained from the application of discontinuation reasons survey to the students. The survey was developed by Ministry of National Education and improve by the researcher. At the end of the study, it was seen that the reason of discontinuation is intensively family based. Intensely choosen reasons besides familial reasons are reasons that are stemming from school, teachers and directors. Significant differences in discontinuation in terms of gender reasons were determined. It has been seen that families have part in discontinuation of female students.
