DISSIPATION AND ACCUMULATION OF ENERGY AS FACTORS CONDITIONING STABILITY OF FRICTIONAL COUPLES
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2009, Vol 225, Issue 3
Abstract
Wear and stability of frictional couples are presented as a function of dissipation and accumulation of energy. Such couples are treated as open thermodynamic systems and processes occurring in them are described on the basis of the first law of thermodynamics. Basic energy interactions and their relations to dissipation and accumulation of energy during friction are taken into account. The intensity of stabilised wear and the stability of frictional couples as a function of friction parameters, the physical properties of rubbing bodies, and mechanism of wear are described. J.F. Archard's dependence conditioning volumetric wear is also given. The dependencies describing the stability of frictional couples are interpreted in physical terms.<br/><br/>
