Distributed Arithmetic Architecture based FIR Filter Implementation for Discrete Wavelet Transform

Abstract
Corruption in image due to noise is most common problem faced in image pre-processing methods. Image denoising technique is one of the initial steps of image pre-processing. Noise often gets inserted in digital images during acquisition, transmission and retrieval from storage media. This noise can be spotted in a photograph by the dots, these occur due to low lighting conditions. So, to remove this noise and to retain or preserve fine details of an image, image denoising is necessary, this paper proposes implementation of distributed arithmetic for discrete wavelet transform and its inverse for filtering in VHDL to remove noise. Distributed arithmetic method is used for implementation of FIR filter. Distributed Arithmetic has an advantage of fast computation; high latency over other methods. Further, this method is used to implement discrete wavelet transform for the removal of noise from an image.
