Distribution and Molecular Identification of Rice White Tip Nematode Aphelenchoides besseyi in Rice Growing Areas in Bulgaria
Journal Title: Journal of BioScience and Biotechnology - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
The surface sterilization of explants in chemical solutions is an important step to remove contaminants with minimal damage to plant cells. Woody and mature plants growing in the open field are known to harbor a large amount of microflora and are very difficult to sterilize. The routinely used surface sterilization procedures with the solution of Ca(OCl)2 had proven to be relatively unsuccessful with Taxus baccata and some other woody fruit and ornamental species. The objective of the present study was to propose and to verify new procedures of surface-sterilization of Ginkgo and plum shoot tip explants from old trees as well as sweet cherry embryos employing silver nitrate or chlorhexidine gluconate in different concentration and periods of exposure. According to the results obtained in the present experiments we could recommend silver nitrate and chlorhexidine gluconate as effective surface sterilization agents in disinfection procedures at the initiation of woody shoot tip and embryo culture.

Occurrence of hydrocarbon-degrading nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the rhizosphere of Paspalum vaginatum Sw.
This study investigated the influence of nitrogen-fixing hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria from the rhizosphere of plants in the biodegradation of crude oil in the polluted soil. Several nitrogen-fixing and crude oil utiliz...
Optimization of nutritive medium composition for production of amylase by Bacillus strains
The current study aimed to examine the amylolytic activities of various species of the Bacillus genus. A total of 31% of the tested 166 strains showed a positive reaction on starch agar. Their amylolytic activity was in...
Ecological estimation of swards grown in the region of Middle Balkan Mountains
One of the main problems in contemporary agrarian production is the irrational utilization and management of natural resources as well as non-compliance with the biological characteristics of particular species in accord...
PRGPred: A platform for prediction of domains of resistance gene analogue (RGA) in Arecaceae developed using machine learning algorithms
Plant disease resistance genes (R-genes) are responsible for initiation of defense mechanism against various phytopathogens. The majority of plant R-genes are members of very large multi-gene families, which encode...
Acetylcholinesterase inhibitory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of Salvia tomentosa Mill. essential oil
Chemical composition and bioactivity of essential oil from Salvia tomentosa Mill. natively grown in Bulgaria were investigated. GC-MS analysis identified 60 compounds which represented 98% of the oil constituents....
