DO PRESENTE À HISTÓRIA: UM OLHAR CRÍTICO SOBRE A INTEGRAÇÃO DA AMÉRICA LATINA E O CARIBE NO CAPITALISMO GLOBAL

Abstract
Departing from the expressions “development” and “integration”, namely the meanings they assume as means of competitive insertion of Latin American and Caribbean countries in the global market, this text proposes a brief historical retrospective that invites us to observe how such expressions can be also utilized as basis for a query regarding the subordinated insertion of this region in the current international division of labor. This text does not intend an in-depth discussion of concepts and definitions, neither does it intend to present an ample bibliographic review, but to draw attention to the basic causes of internal and external inequalities among Latin American and Caribbean countries, originated in the exploitation of their natural and human resources by countries and regions who, not by chance, have propagated political and economic theories of which they only take part as long as they are being benefitted.
