Dobowa dynamika występowania alergennego pyłku traw w Krakowie w zależności od warunków meteorologicznych (Intradiurnal dynamics of the allergenic grass pollen in Krakow in relations to the meteorological conditions)

Abstract
This study defines some regularities of the intradiurnal dynamics of grass pollen grain numbers (Poaceae) against a background of meteorological conditions. For this reason, hourly pollen data obtained during the aerobiological monitoring were used in Krakow in 2003–2014. It was found, that the hourly pollen counts differed clearly. It depended on the time of flowering of the different grass species and meteorological conditions. During the day (24 hrs two occurrences of an increase in the pollen count were observed, in 6.00–9.00 AM and 4.00–8.00 PM (UTC+1). Due to the fact that in Krakow, a great urban centre, pollen grains are wind-blown from fairly distant sources, the number of grains may differ significantly from that resulting from the release of grasses growing in a given area alone. It was also noted that precipitation does not always clean the air from pollen grains. Often, even after intensive precipitation, the number of grains increased rather quickly, which undoubtedly contributed to the exacerbation of symptoms among allergy sufferers.
