DOUBLE PSYCHOANALYSIS IN THE GOLDEN NOTEBOOK

Abstract

The Golden Notebook is Doris Lessing’s masterpiece and in this paper I have studied and analysed Anna Wulf’s process of self-analysis which can be similar to psychoanalysis. The title of the paper contains the phrase „double psychoanalysis” because the main character, Anna Wulf undergoes two processes of analysis: a „real” psychoanalysis with Mother Sugar (her therapist) and her own psychoanalysis by dividing her life in four parts: wtriting, love, politics and daily life (diary). The character is experiencing a depression after her lover has left her and she will succeed to heal herself by putting together all the four parts into a single unitary one by writing The Golden Notebook.
