Dynamic assessment of retrofitted NC lathe used for reshaping wheelsets
Journal Title: Proceedings in Manufacturing Systems - Year 2018, Vol 13, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper presents the requirements and achievements in a frame of a research project for the retrofitting of a lathe in order to optimize the reshaping on CNC machine tools and increase the traffic safety. It presents the main objectives that have been achieved, with the evaluation of the existing machine in the conventional form, the technical aspects regarding the wear of the used rolling surfaces, the analysis of the new solutions of the radial and longitudinal feed drives, design calculations, choice of the drive motors, CAD modeling and multibody and FEA simulation. The feed drives were designed and assembled on the machine structure along with some components removing. The machine was equipped with numerical control equipment and with surface measuring device before and after processing. Geometric precision measurements have been performed and also the assessment of the idle and cutting operation both on the old machine and on the modernized one. Analyzes of the results and comparisons of the behavior of the refabricated machine tool have been achieved.

Mechanical strength test of train wheel based on virtual prototyping
Virtual prototyping becomes more and more a less-expensive alternative of physical mockups. Its applicability to product certification procedures is already included in several standards where it is possible to replace c...
SOLUTIONS FOR HYDRAULIC BALANCING OF THE POSITIONING AND FEED KINEMATIC CHAINS IN PORTAL MILLING MACHINES
The authors of this paper introduce hydraulic balancing systems for vertically moving heavy loads. The proposed system is suitable for heavy duty machine tools with crossrail that can be positioned depending on the size...
Profiling of the planing tool for cycloidal worms machining – CAD method versus analitycal method
Cycloidal worms are helical-cylindrical surfaces, having a constant pitch. They are used in helical pumps construction, usually as driving screws. This paper introduces a new method for profiling a helical-cylindrical su...
Manufacturing performance improvement of complex products based on coding and parameterisation: a case study
This work presents a case study referring to the way in which a complex product design is linked to the manufacturing processes which are necessary to make it. The product is a mobile cement pump consisting of 8 sub-asse...
USING A CNC MILLING MACHINE FOR INCREMENTAL FORMING
The Asymmetric single point incremental forming (ASPIF) is a manufacturing technology with a high degree of novelty which has been widely recognized as a solution with great potential in manufacturing small batches or ev...
