Economic education of senior high school students with visual impairment in special schools

Abstract

The article highlights the actuality of the process of economic education of students with visual impairment in special schools. The state of the research of this issue is analyzed by various domestic scientists, including tyflopedagogues. We have analyzed the level of economic education of students with visual impairment using the experimental study, the results of which showed a low level of economic culture. We have specified the features of the formation of economic life competence of students of special boarding schools which influence the level of economic culture, in particular: children’s life in institutions of closed type; low level of independence of blind students; insignificant role of parents in economic education of children; absence of modern textbooks and sources of information for students with visual impairments; lack of time for economic education; absence of special educational activities aimed at economic education in boarding schools; visual disorders which do not allow the students to fulfill themselves in terms of economic culture, etc. We determined the basic approaches (axiological; systemic; active; person-oriented; competent), principles (of humanistic orientation, educational process, taking into account age, typical and individual features of students with visual impairment, strategic integrity, continuity and education in a group, systemacy, technologization, individual approach, social adequacy, social partnership) and pedagogical conditions of organization of economic education of students with visual impairment (strengthening interdisciplinary connections between school subjects, activity of study groups and optional classes with economic bias or economic component, conducting school and after-school educational activities with a component of economic education, excursions with a component of economic education, intensifying the work with parents in the direction of economic education of their children, creating accessible sources of information on economic topics for students with visual impairment, conducting thematic didactic and interactive games for the formation of economic competence of blind students, work with teachers and educators to improve their level of economic culture). We showed the ways to improve the level of economic competence of students with visual impairment and analyzed their efficiency on the basis of the forming experiment.<br/><br/>
