Photography for the Mathematical Culture of the Student. Research Report

Abstract

The concept discussed in the article is based on the constructivist paradigm. It stipulates the generation of the child’s system of knowledge from independent discoveries on the basis of cognitive conflicts (discrepancy between mental imagery and actual observations), as well as the pursuit towards construction of Piagetian cognitive schemata. The article presents an outline of the author’s concept of mathematical photoeducation and experimental justification of its didactic application (the influence of photography on the development of the mathematical culture of the student). It manifests the power of photography as a universal tool for development of all components of the mathematical culture of thestudent: mathematical competence, language, imagination, creativity and elegance.
