Economy and Development in Yemen

Journal Title: International Journal of Business and Management Invention - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 12

Abstract

Yemen's economy suffers from imbalances since the Houthis seized control of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, on 21 September 2014, and the war in many areas of Yemen made the economic situation more difficult. The humanitarian situation is foreshadowing a major humanitarian crisis in the country. The economic effects of the war have included all the economic sectors in the country. There are economic sectors that have stopped altogether and those whose activity has been reduced due to the additional burdens of the private sector that threaten the continuity of its activity. This has led to the loss of thousands of citizens for their jobs and sources of income,Also, the Yemeni economy is facing challenges such as the inability of the country budget resulting from the significant decline in revenues and the use of some resources by the parties to the conflict for military purposes. Also, this deficit comes in conjunction with a massive reduction in the country's foreign currency reserves, which causes some risks.
